Microsoft is Experimenting on Virtual Wi-Fi Adapter since 2002.
They have adopted the use of this technology in their new Windows OS i.e Win 7.
You can create virtual wi-fi hosted networks in win 7, you can share internet of your laptop, netbook by creating Wi-Fi Hotspot Access Point.
You can do this by using a small utility named as Connectify, but if its ain’t working for you then you can create Wi-Fi Hotspot access point using MS-Dos.
How to Create Wi-Fi Hotspot Access Point (Virtual Wireless Hosted networks) :
Step 1 :
Goto Network and Sharing Center in Control Panel and then Navigate to Change Adapter Settings Over there.
Step 2 :
Select the Adapter on which you are currently using Internet on your netbook or laptop, Right Click on it and goto Properties.
Step 3 :
In Properties goto Sharing Tab and Select Allow Other Network Users to Connect through this Computers Internet Connection.
Step 4 :
In Home Network Connection select the Virtual Wi-Fi Adapter and press OK.
Step 5 :
Now Open Command Prompt (cmd.exe) on your PC with Administrative Rights.
Step 6 :
Type the following Command, just remember to change the SSID and Key (Password) as per your Requirements.
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=Your Network Name key=Your Password
Step 7 :
The above command will configure your virtual wireless adapter, and configure it.
Step 8 :
Now in the command prompt with Administrative Rights type the Following to Activate and use your Virtual Wi-Fi Hotspot Access Point.
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
Step 9 :
Now you can use the Wireless Wi-Fi Hotspot Access Point to share the net and use it on your other wi-fi devices. Also, you can Stop this network by replacing ‘Star’ to ‘Stop’ in the command in Step No. 8 and using it with administrative rights.
Step 10 :
All done, if you know to use command prompt and you play around a bit, you can see your network status and also can play around and experiment it with the ‘netsh’ Command.

Yeah, right.
I’d really like to see how you would set up a WLAN hotspot in MS-DOS 6.22, as it was discontinued 11 years ago, and the last OS to use DOS was Win XP.
The MS-Dos like environment in newer versions of Windows is just a command-line tool, and has nothing to with Dos, even tho most of the basic commands still works.
